Chairperson John Scutter says “ After the roadblocks and difficulties of the last two years, due to the pandemic, we here at Work Ready Kāpiti are so pleased with this year's turnout of young people and the local business community to our #EmployerMeets events. These events are a great opportunity for young people who attend and to help get them started on their career journey. This year's attendance rate is an indication of this. We’re looking forward to the future and how we can make next year's events even more successful.”
The #EmployerMeets events are styled after speed-dating events with rangatahi participating in multiple short interviews with local business owners from different industries of their choosing over the course of the evening.
During these interviews, rangatahi are able to ask all the burning questions they may have about work, they’re able to foster connections with local employers and build on their interview experience. From here employers have been known to find new team members and apprentices.
"The recent Employer Meet held at Ōtaki College was a great evening with a very positive atmosphere. Students found all the employers very friendly and easy to talk to. I think it is such a valuable learning experience for them. They can build up their knowledge about different local businesses and practice talking about their skills and attributes with employers, while receiving useful advice and constructive feedback during the evening.” Says Ōtaki College Careers Advisor Steph Putt.
Nadia Howard from Bedlam Hair Design & Bliss Day Spa commented that the #EmployerMeets were all about “teaching the students that what they put into work they deserve to get out”
